Marion GOP Accepting Resumes for County Recorder

Due to the recent retirement of Marion County Recorder Maryjo Osmun, the Marion County Republican Party will accept resumes until 5:00pm on February 20, 2012, for the position of County Recorder.

Candidates should be a registered Republican, a resident of Marion County, and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the duties of the office.

Local Community Action Commission Wins Best Practice Award

On February 2, 2012, Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission won a Best Practice award from the Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies (OACAA) for its Backpack program. Ohio Heartland developed a Backpack program to provide meals for low-income school children in Galion with assistance from a number of area agencies.

Buckeyes Beat Wisconsin 72-58

Samantha Prahalis scored a career-high 34 points and No. 10 Ohio State made the most of an eight-day layoff to beat Wisconsin 72-58 on Monday night, the Buckeyes' 20th consecutive victory over the Badgers.

LaRue Man Killed After Crashing into School Bus

A LaRue man was killed Monday afternoon when he collided with an Elgin school bus while he was riding an ATV. The Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports the fatal crash occurred on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 4:21 pm on LaRue-Mount Victory Road, west of Clark Road, in Bowling Green Township.

Marion Gas Station Robbed on Sunday

The Marion Police Department says officers responded to a robbery report at MotoMart, 691 West Center Street, on Sunday at just before 1:00am. Investigators say a threatening note had been given to the teller and the suspect then forcefully pulled money from the register.

Mall Walk 2012 Slated for February 11

Marion General Hospital’s Cardiac Rehab Center is sponsoring Mall Walk 2012, an annual event that celebrates National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week and National Heart Month. Slated for Saturday, February 11 at Marion Centre Mall, you can join current and past cardiac rehab patients for a one-mile walk (3 ½ laps) around the inside of the mall.

Marion Florist Earns FTD Master Florist Designation

Nathan Noblit from Marion Flower Shop has recently been designated as an FTD Master Florist. This unique recognition is only available to top quality florists that are a part of the 100 year old FTD florist network, according to a media release.

Required Boating Course Offered in Marion

Marion Sail & Power Squadron is beginning their six-week boating class on Tuesday, February 14 at Tri-Rivers. Anyone born after January 1st 1982 is required to take a class for state certification of a wave runner, ski-do, or a boat.

Deadline Nears to Register for Florida Reunion

February 10 is the deadline to make reservations for the 63rd annual Marion County Florida Reunion to be held on Saturday, February 18 in Bradenton. Doors at Duff's Original Buffet, 6010 14th St. W., (U.S. 41) will open at 9:45 a.m. with the program to begin the activity.
