Toys, Food Sought for Christmas Clearinghouse

Christmas Clearinghouse, an initiative of Junior Service Guild, will be holding a toy and non-perishable food drive on Wednesday, December 14, from 10:00am to 7:00pm at Marion County Children Services, 1680 Marion-Waldo Road. Junior Service Guild members will be on hand to help unload vehicles.

Winners Named in 40th Hoop Shoot Contest

Over 40 youngsters ages 8 through 13 competed in the December 10th Marion Elks Lodge 32 Area Hoop Shoot competition.  This was the 40th year that the Marion Elks have sponsored the “Hoop Shoot” free-throw shooting contest where youth can advance from the local level through district, state, and on to the national level.

The Grant Middle School (the former Harding High School) gymnasiums will be the site for the Marion area Elks Hoop Shoot competition, to be held on Saturday, December 10th.  Registration will begin at 2:00 P.M., and the Hoop Shoot free throw shooting contest will begin at approximately 2:30 P.M.  The event is open to the public at no charge.

Marion Elks Offering “Most Valuable Student” Scholarship

Marion Elks Lodge No. 32 has announced that applications for the Elks National Foundation's 2012 Most Valuable Student scholarships are now available. They have been distributed to local high schools and guidance counselors. Or, they can be obtained online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars, or by e-mail request at scholarships@Elks.org.

Marion Evening Lions Presents Oktoberfest

Over 50 booths of homemade crafts, a huge bake sale, a raffle and face painting are just a sampling of what you will find at Oktoberfest at Tri-Rivers Career Center, Saturday, October 8 from 9:00am till 4:00pm. The event, created by the Marion Evening Lions Club, raises money for the club’s vision programs.

Marion Native Admitted to Honor Society

Sigma Alpha Lambda has announced that Danielle Myers of Marion has recently been recognized as a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, National Leadership and Honors Organization at the Ohio State University.

Marion Rotary Announces Foundation Scholarship Winners

The Marion Rotary Club recently announced the recipients of the annual Marion Rotary Foundation Scholarships. Each year, approximately $20,000 is offered to hard working students from all Marion area high schools to help defray their college education expenses.

Marion Elks to Commemorate Flag Day with Public Ceremony

A Flag Day ceremony, hosted by Marion Elks Lodge 32, will be held at Founder’s Park in downtown Marion at 6:30 p.m. on Flag Day, Tuesday, June 14th. With eight of the nation's historic banners behind them, representatives of the Marion Elks Lodge 32, assisted by local Boy Scouts, will conduct a ceremony that pays tribute to the Stars and Stripes and explains its history.

Elks Donate to Marion Community Garden Project

Marion Elks Lodge 32 is donating over $1,000 to the Marion Community Garden project, through an Elks National Foundation Gratuity Grant and the donations of local Elks members.  The project organizer, Terry Cline, says the funds will be used to pay for expenses like tilling the ground, fertilizer, mulch, plot markers and area upkeep.

Marion Noon Lions Club Revived

47 Marion community leaders were inducted into Marion’s newest service club, the Marion Noon Lions Club, on Saturday, April 9, at the Marion Country Club. The event was held to officially charter and induct the charter members into the revived club.
