Two More Elite Wrestlers Qualify for State Tourney

Two Marion Elite wrestlers qualified for the OAC State Wrestling Tournament Sunday at the New Lexington Districts to bring the tally to 9 Elite wrestlers qualifying this year out of 11 attempts.

Marion Mighty Mites Earn 9 1st Places

Marion Mighty Mite wrestling club came home with nine 1st place finishes along with three 2nd, four 3rd, and four 4th place finishes in its second league meet of the season held at Hilliard Bradley High School on Sunday.

Marion Wrestling Club Qualifies 7 for State Tourney

Marion Elite Wrestling Club qualified 7 out of its 9 wrestlers for the Ohio Athletic Committee Grade School State wrestling Tournament at the Thomas Worthington Districts on Saturday, January 14. The wrestlers are Marion Elite's 24th through 30th youth state qualifiers in the past four years.

Marion Wrestling Club Joins Regional League

Marion Mighty Mites, Marion's oldest wrestling club since 1973 consisting of beginner to elite wrestlers, has joined the newly formed Russ Hellickson Central Ohio Youth Wrestling League.

Marion took 22 wrestlers to its first league meet held at Olentangy Orange High School this past Sunday and came away with 10 first, four 2nd, five 3rd, and three 4th place finishes.

Winners Named in 40th Hoop Shoot Contest

Over 40 youngsters ages 8 through 13 competed in the December 10th Marion Elks Lodge 32 Area Hoop Shoot competition.  This was the 40th year that the Marion Elks have sponsored the “Hoop Shoot” free-throw shooting contest where youth can advance from the local level through district, state, and on to the national level.

Local Online Forum Raising Funds to Sponsor Youth Team

The Mid-Ohio Speakeasy, an online forum based in Marion dedicated to local events, opinion writing, and free speech, is holding a fund raiser to sponsor a little league team with Marion’s  Baseball for Youth program for the 2012 season. The Mid-Ohio Speakeasy hopes to raise at least $250 by Friday, February 10, 2012 to cover the cost of sponsorship. Site members will then be able to vote on a name for the team.

Marion Elks Holding 40th Annual Hoop Shoot

The Grant Middle School (the former Harding High School) gymnasiums will be the site for the Marion area Elks Hoop Shoot competition, to be held on Saturday, December 10th.  Registration will begin at 2:00 P.M., and the Hoop Shoot free throw shooting contest will begin at approximately 2:30 P.M.  The event is open to the public at no charge.

Wrestlers Sought for Two Marion Clubs

Marion Elite and Marion Mighty Mites Wrestling Clubs are seeking kids interested in learning the sport, expanding their skills, and competing at a high level. Registration for both clubs are going on now.

River Valley Holding Youth Basketball Registration

River Valley Youth Basketball will be hosting three registration nights for their winter youth basketball program. The program is open to all River Valley boys and girls in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades.

Flag Football Clinic Offered by YMCA

The Marion Family YMCA is holding a Youth Flag Football Clinic over the next three Wednesdays, October 19 and 26 and November 2. The clinic runs from 5:00 to 5:50pm each night and is for ages 7 thru 11.
