One Killed in Marion Crash

One person was killed and injured two others on Friday. The Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says the crash occurred at 11:26 am on Fairground Road, east of Madison Avenue.

Troopers report their preliminary investigation indicates that a 1994 Chevrolet Astro van was traveling eastbound on Fairground Road and struck the left side of a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Richard E. Lessig, II, 40, of Marion. At the time, the truck was stranded across the roadway at a driveway access.

The driver of the van, Clarence A. Hicks, 48, of Marion, was transported to Marion General Hospital by Marion Township Fire Department. He was then transferred to Grant Medical Center in Columbus where he was pronounced dead.

Two other occupants of the van where transported to Marion General Hospital. Brittney S. Kensler, 19, of Marion, was transported by Marion City Fire Department while Michael Sawyer, 34, was transported by First Consolidated Fire Department.  Both were treated and released.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies, Marion Township, Marion City and First Consolidated Fire Departments.

The crash remains under investigation.
